Reading Out Loud…What?

AuthorsYou mean I have to read…out loud?  In front of people, actual humans?  This of course was my first thought when Leah suggested the idea.  Its not that I’m shy and for some odd reason I don’t really get stage fright (perhaps that comes from playing music for crowds for nearly 18 years).  Something about just felt a little strange.

But whatever it was, I got over it quickly and decided to just jump in and see what happened. I have to admit, it was actually quite a bit of fun.  It certainly helped when people laughed at the funny parts and clapped at the end.

Honestly though, the best part for me was getting to hang out with a couple other local authors, Leah Rhyne and Rob Favre.  These are some very awesome people as well as very talented writers.  It felt like we had known each other for years.  Rob was even asked by his daughter if we knew each other beforehand, because we seemed like “bros”.  I’m taking that as a good thing.  Overall, it felt like it was a good start to building a little more culture around the local author scene here in Charleston.  We’ve got so many talented people in our midst.  I will certainly be looking to do more events with these two in the future.

In the meantime, don’t be scared to get off the NY Times Best Seller list and see what you’ve got right around the corner.  Especially if you are looking for things that aren’t just a carbon copy of other best sellers.

Happy Reading,
Brian
